CHAPTER SIX
At the front door Patricia and Jamaica waited patiently and announced Aunt Stacy's arrival as McKenna approached. "Can I open the door?" Jamaica asked.
"Sure, go ahead," McKenna answered. She was glad to see Stacy whose best friend, Fatima Page, was standing behind her.
Jamaica opened the door, and the two handfuls attacked her with hugs. "HI AUNTY!"
Then McKenna embraced her. "Hey, sister – hi Fatima."
Fatima followed Stacy inside and closed the door. "Hey, McKenna; wow, you have a lovely home."
"Thanks, it's actually my father's-in-law. We've been staying here since Chris was laid off. Are you girls ready to go with your aunty?"
"Not me, I want to stay in case there's another fight," Patricia answered.
"I told you we were not fighting." The assertion embarrassed McKenna. "Don't listen to her; she's just getting caught up in grown folks' conversations."
Then Jamaica added to the embarrassment. "Daddy's mojo gets hungry, and he wakes up Mommy in the middle of the night."
Both Stacy and Fatima tried hard not to laugh.
McKenna's stomach began to knot up. "All right, it's time for you girls to get your backpacks and leave with Aunty Stacy before you hurt yourselves by talking too much."
That's when Josh joined them to announce that the game had started. He was also glad to see McKenna's sister. "Hey Stacy, so you're here to take my granddaughters away?"
"Excuse me, but you cannot be a grandfather," Fatima spoke up. "I'm positive you're no more than five years older than I am, and I'll be twenty-seven in November."
"Josh, this is my friend, Fatima," Stacy said after she embraced him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Fatima. I have a sister by that name."
"Well, that's one thing we have in common already," she replied, totally infatuated with this tall, handsome hunk of a man. "And it sure is a pleasure to meet you. Is Joshua a family name?"
McKenna and Stacy exchanged glances because of the instant chemistry between the two who had no idea they were related.
"Yeah, it is; I was named for my great grandfather Josh Havens of the Tuskegee Airmen."
"Well, it sure does fit because you look really fly."
Josh couldn't believe that he was blushing. "Thank you."
McKenna remembered the earlier conversation about the high school girlfriend and figured she should put a stop to the introduction. "Dad, can you take these munchkins to get their things?"
"I sure can. Come on, munchkins."
"We're not munchkins," Jamaica said.
Joshua bent over and held his arms open. "Let's see, can I lift the both of you at the same time?" He lifted them easily when they rushed into his arms.
"Yes, you can, Papa," Jamaica said.
"Then you're munchkins. Let's go." He started up the stairs but stopped when the mouthy Patricia spoke up.
"She may be a munchkin, but I ain't. I'm a diva."
McKenna gasped and covered her face. "Oh my God."
"I got this," Josh told her. "You do have a little attitude to go with that mouth."
"Please straighten her out, Daddy."
"I will. How old are you, girl?"
Patricia buried her face on his shoulder, but he nudged it up with his chin.
